Slow White series on show in Galerie Petronas, Kuala Lumpur [2013-12-09]

The exhibition New Olds - Design between Tradition and Innovation featuring our Slow White series will be shown in Galerie Petronas, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 4-2-2014 untill 31-3-2014.

The exhibition curated by Volker Albus, for the Institut fur Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. (ifa) deals with design between Tradition and Innovation. Sixty exhibits explore the relationship between tradition and innovation in contemporary design. The variety and topicality of the many approaches are bundled around the themes material, construction, configuration, production, and traditional use. Forty-five designers and design teams from Germany, other European countries and the USA enter here into an intensive dialogue, and the international nature of the show is further emphasised by its world tour with its connections to the local cultures on site.

Exhibition Delta Mart in Rietveldpaviljoen [2013-12-09]

Exhibition Delta Mart featuring our Raw Comfort chair will be on show at Rietveldpaviljoen Zonnehof in Amersfoort. The exhibition will open on 21 December and is on show until 12 January. Please visit www.deltamart.nl for dates and times. The exhibition was first shown during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven last October as an homage to the Delta vase by designer and architect Mart van Schijndel. His daughter Meike van Schijndel invited designers and artists from various disciplines to make a new design inspired by the Delta Vase and the work of Mart van Schijndel.

For the exhibition we designed the Raw Comfort chair. The starting point for the chair came from its construction. Every connection is composed of two pieces of wood laid flat on each other. The solution to the challenge of creating comfort using only flat, rectangular pieces was found in asymmetry, which gives the chair its random and almost organic nature.

The exhibition includes works of among others: Hans Appenzeller, Jacco Bregonje, Imme van der Haak, Alessandro Mendini, Nikola Nikolov, Bo Reudler, Maarten Schenkeveld, Meike van Schijndel en Gerrit Vos.

New: Haute Bamboo Lamp [2013-11-06]

The Haute Bamboo lamps are made with varying stems of Bambusa Ventriocosa. For the first time, each bamboo stem has been used in its entirety. As every stem is curved in a different direction, each lamp gains a characteristic lean. The on/off handle is fashioned from a circular copper-coated section of bamboo referencing the Haute Bamboo candleholder. The light takes on a warm hue thanks to the copper-coloured lining of the lampshade while illumination is provided by an LED light. A lining of grey felt provides a soft footing under the base.

New Bamboo Furniture: Bamboo Windsor series [2013-11-06]

Launched last year as a prototype, the Bamboo Windsor chair will now be produced in-house by the studio. The new coating of natural milk paint finished with linseed oil is available in various matte colours that reflect the traditional Windsor chair palette. Used on traditional Windsor chairs, this durable paint is derived from milk and accentuates the natural feel and look of the bamboo. A new natural version of the chair will also be debuted with a linseed oil finish.

An extension of the chair, the Bamboo Windsor settee is an oversized love seat ideal for seating 2 people comfortably or 3 people cosily. The accompanying Bamboo Windsor coffee table references the gesture of a favourite serving tray – think breakfast in bed or high tea. Its upturned edges are a nod to the angles of the chair seat. Both are available in a milk paint and linseed oil finish in the abovementioned colours.

New products to be launched at Dutch Design Week 2013 [2013-09-16]

During Dutch Design Week (19-27 Oct) we will launch new products at new DDW location DESIGN PERRON. In collaboration with Olav Bruin we will present our new Bamboo Windsor Settee and Coffee Table as new siblings of the Bamboo Windsor Chair. The Bamboo Windsor Chair, which was launched recently in London, is being exhibited for the first time in the Netherlands. It won the 2012 TIFF Award and is now being produced by our studio.

While bamboo is among our most sustainable renewable resources, the reputation of bamboo furniture does not often match the wondrous qualities of the material.

The aim of the Bamboo Windsor series is to re-examine the reputation and aesthetics of bamboo furniture, and to use the inherent material qualities of natural bamboo to create serial products that are all individual.

Furthermore we present the Haute Bamboo Lamp, a new addition to the Haute Bamboo series made from the mutated bulbous stalks of Bambusa Ventriocosa.

Please check out our event at the Dutch Design Week website for address and opening hours.

Hope to see you in Eindhoven!
