New studio space in Amsterdam! [2009-11-24]
Since september we have a great new studio space in Amsterdam. The 13th of November we had a proper inauguration.
Our space is part of B29 Studios, a new collective atelier located in Bos en Lommer, Amsterdam.
Comprising 15 independent design studios, B29 was founded in 2009 by both emerging
and established design professionals who are well respected in the industry. B29 is
housed in a former technical high school, the whole building of which has now been
converted solely into studios for creatives.
The diverse creative disciplines of the atelier encompasses design – product, interior,
exhibition, theatre, graphic/communication design – to architecture, engineering,
photography and design journalism/PR. Uniquely, alongside commercial clients, there is
a strong base of community and cultural clients within the studios.
While everyone is based in Amsterdam, the studio has an international outlook with
designers hailing not only from The Netherlands but also from Latvia, Denmark,
Australia, South Africa and Syria.
Have a look at
b29studios.nl for more info.

Slow White series in book Gestalten [2009-08-31]
Slow White series in new book of Gestalten called
Once Upon a Chair. The release is mid September for the continental Europe and October for Uk, Asia, North America and Latin America.
Once Upon a Chair is an international up-to-the minute survey of contemporary furniture design. The book captures the zeitgeist of this rigorous industry by examining current trends and presenting pioneering examples by the world’s most influential designers and emerging talents. The collected works indicate a recognisable shift towards progressive responsible designs that make a social impact and the revival of artisanal craft. It further explores how designers are focusing more on process-driven and storytelling concepts as well as the continuing flirtation with material and technological experimentation.

Exhibition in Nhow Hotel, Milan [2009-05-04]
The Slow White table and chair are on show in the Nhow Design Hotel, Milan, as part of their exhibition Con-Munication. 7 may till 31 october 2009.
The new exhibition at Nhow hotel is dedicated to communication today and at the way the final messages of communication are increasingly drifting away from their original content. The floors of the hotel become thus the pages of an unwritten book, where art and design are to express and expose the different expressive levels of con-munication.
The design hotel Nhow is part of an impressive reconstruction project of an industrial building in the South of Milan. It is situated in Via Tortona 35.

A group exhibition at
ToolsGalerie called New Borns features our work and that of four other designers. This exhibition is on from 2 April till 23 May 2009.

New product for Toolsgalerie [2009-02-02]
For
ToolsGalerie in Paris we designed a new carpet called Equus. It will be exclusively available through ToolsGalerie in a limited edition of 8.
A horse hide is cut with a graphic pattern made of the Fleur-de-Lis, an enduring symbol of France and a motif commonly found on antique Dutch ceramic tiles. The pattern punched out of the rug creates open sections like enlarged lace, at the same time suggesting decay as it looks like the Fleur-de-Lis have been slowly eating into the hide. Contrary to convention, this carpet is not meant to cover or hide your floor but to start an interaction with it. The striking pattern is the connection in between, closing or opening to reveal what's underneath.

Daniel Schweizer.

Our new carpet Equus, part of the Asylum Collection will be exhibited in the exhibition Carpets Stories in Paris.
